Flying geese come in all sizes how do I convert all to make them Eleanor Burns way? What is the rule?

As I started to write this, I realized I may only have part of the answer.
"Standard" geese are twice as wide as they are tall. i.e. 3/4" x 1 1/2"; 1" x 2"; 1 1/2" x 3"; 2" x 4"; 3" x 6; 4" x 8" -- these are the rulers I have.
When I use my QIAD rulers, I know that the sky fabric is cut 1 1/2" bigger than the geese fabric. For 3 x 6 geese the geese fabric is 7 1/2" and the sky is 9". Or for 1 x 2 geese the geese fabric is 3 1/2" and the sky is 5".
So, here's the speculation. Cut the geese square 2 1/2" bigger than the height of the geese then cut the sky square 1 1/2" bigger than the geese square.
With this in mind, I would expect standard geese that I want to finish 5 1/2" wide to be 2 3/4" tall. 5 1/2 divided by 2 = 2 3/4. Therefore the geese fabric would be a 5 1/4" square and the sky fabric a 6 3/4" square.
I have not done this so don't assume my math and or theory is correct until you test it!
Of course there are those neat geese which fly in a circle that Caryl Bryer Fallert does and those have to be paper pieced.

I saw it on one of her qIAD's on tv. I don't remember which one-or what quilt they were working on. I do know Sue was working on a quilt and she was discussing it too. Maybe someone at customer service can tell you. Sandy, remembering that much

Whatever finished size you want - add 1 1/2" to the larger number for the smaller square, and then 1 1/2" to THAT number for the larger square. Hope that's clearer than mud!! There ARE QIAD Flying Geese rulers for lots of sizes.
