To Stacey:

My grandmother used to take old sheets and/or flannel to put in the center of her "summer" quilts so they wouldn't be so heavy...so, no, you don't have to use batting.

My quilt bedspreads that I use in the summer are never filled with batting. They are light weight and are just fine.

I bought 2 pieces of flannel for a quilt, the lady a Joann's told me since flannel was so heavy she wouldn't use a batting because it would be to heavy and hot for a baby. My question is could I tie the flannel to just make a tie quilt?
