I'd say 99% of the time I machine stitch my binding down. It has gotten better the more I do it, but generally there's always a spot or two I have to go back and fix.

Last week I was reading the Blog Patchwork Times, and the author wrote about her large pile of quilts which needed binding - quickly. Her readers encouraged her to try to machine stitch her binding down.

She did and wrote several posts with great hints and tips. I followed those hints and tips which were new to me and by golly no places where I had to go back and fix the binding.

I watched the video - thanks. I will still hand stitch the binding on some of my quilt because I like the handwork. But on other quilts like baby, kids, or charity quilts I will use the method she showed. I do like the glue but I wash my quilts as soon as I'm done with them to get the quilting marks out. Anyway, this was a great video. Oh, one thing she didn't mention is that the edges of some quilts require a 1/4" binding due to points coming all the way to the edge of the quilt so you would need to compensate for using 1/4" to sew the binding on by cutting the strip smaller - I think she said 2-1/4".

I just watched the video. I will be trying this on the quilt I am working on when it is time to bind it. Thanks for sharing.

This is how I do my bindings. My fingers aren't flexible enough for hand sewing. Be sure to PRESS the binding away, like she said, while stitching and then it will roll back and hide the stitching.

IT WORKS!
