Need help with making Bias Squares.

Very frustrated - beginner quilter here - having trouble with making bias squares for my quilt. Anyone know a simple way?

Do they absolutely have to be cut on the bias...? Can you cut them on the straight grain instead? That would make sewing them together much easier.

If you can explain more about your project, there are lots of wise quilters here to help.

How about spray starching the dickens out of the fabric before you cut the squares?

I made a block awhile back that all the edges were biased, the directions said to stitch 1/8" away from the cut edge to stabilize it.

You might also want to use the walking foot for piecing. That might help more in even feeding the fabric through.

Also, using lots and lots of pins to keep the fabric from shifting.

That's all I can think of for now. Others will add to it. Everybody here is real good about sharing tips.

A bias square? Just cutting them out would be a puzzler for me. I wish I could get a bias shot combined with my flu shot.

I think you maybe referring to Half Square Triangles or HSTs. Sewing two triangles together to get a square?
