flying geese

Post by BarbieJean » Fri Jan 09, 2009 8:55 pm

I need to make 4 flying geese 3x6 finished. Can anyone tell me how to do this? I do not have enough fabric to use El's ruler. I have never made them any other way. If I did, I do not remember.

Just another Sr. moment. lol Help

This may help BarbieJean...I personally avoid triangles of any kind!

QuiltMaker Sept.'94 had directions for a way that I love.

You need 4 squares of the 'sky' fabric-3 7/8" for the size you want.
One of the goose fabric cut 7 1/4" sq.

Lay 2 of the smaller sqs. kitty corner on the bigger sq. RST
Draw a line corner to corner and sew 1/4 on each side of it.
Cut on line
Press sky corners away from the bigger piece.
Now put another small sq. on the corners of each of the 2 bigger corners-draw the point to point line & again sew off the sides of it at the 1/4"

You'll end up with 4 flying geese pieces. And no triangles to mess with.

Hope this will help you.Dana

Thank you for the help. Dana, I think your instructions sound like the one I found on the internet tht I was going to try.

I searched for flying geese block and one of the locations was
quiltingpaasion.com kind of a neat site.

I saw Ricky Tims (The Quilt Show) make one-seam flying geese. Interesting.

Cherrie just posted this tutorial and it is very clear for the "one seam" flying geese:
