Binding Scalloped edges...HELP NEEDED PLEASE...

When I layed the quilt top out on the bed, it was so pretty with the scalloped edges that I would like to bind it leaving the scalloped edges. Only thing is, I have never put a curved binding on anything. Can anyone give me suggestions on the best way to attach the binding so it will lie flat? I appreciate any and all suggestions/help. Thanks in advance.

Mary - I have not done it but have read and heard that you need to have bias cut binding. I am sure others will add other suggestions.
Good luck!

I have done a wave-edge border. For it and the scallop border you have to cut your binding strips on the bias. My wave edge border lays flat. Good luck with your scalloped border - I can't wait for you to post a picture.

Fons and Porter book Complete Guide to Quilting takes you step by step thru how to make bias binding by making a tube and they also have a section on how to do scalloped binding. It is available at Jo Anns and with the 50 per cent off coupon that expires today it would be a great value. It is one book I use to go back and remind myself how to do something.

You really need to use bias binding when ever you do curves. It should also be cut smaller then regular binding. I cut continus binding using fonz and porter method. You can make alot that way, mush faster. I sure if you googled it you could find something on line. If not let me know and I will explain the best I can for you. Also on the one side of the tape should be folded. I don't fold both sides to the middle. It is eaiser to work with and less bulk. When working with curves, you want less bulk. Let us know. Geri

Well I got the binding on. Looks pretty good for the first time doing the scalloped edges. I still have 16 more hearts to hand quilt into the set pieces. I promise to get photos posted as soon as I figure out how to hook my new camera up to the computer. My DS is going to help me with that part when I go out to CA next week.

Thanks everyone for all the help.

Glad to hear that you didn't give up. I have never done a scalloped border myself, my question for you is will you do one again? They are gorgeous, maybe the next baby quilt I make I should. One of those things a quilter should do at least once.
