If I take a large block pattern and reduce it on the copy machine, will everything stay in proportion, only in a smaller size? If not, how do I make the block smaller, is there a formula?

I don't know of any magical formulas - but if you do shrink it down, take off the 1/4 inch seam allowance first and then add it back on after you shrunk the pattern. I'm still not sure if this work, you might try it with a simple pattern first

Littlebit is correct. If you don't remove the seam allowance and you simple reduce the pattern 50% all of a sudden your 1/4" seam allowance is only 1/8".

Here is a website that has a formula to reduce or increase block sizes. Sorry I don't know how to make it possible to link directly, but here's the address:
www.victorianaquiltdesigns.com. Click on the "calculators block." There are 5 different calculations you can download for free. You just have to request them and they'll be sent to your email address as attachments. I have all 5 and the email can through great. Note: you have to put your first and last name, otherwise it doesn't work. I just put my first name and wondered why I didn't get anything, went back, put in first and last name, bingo! These charts are WONDERFUL. The forumla you're looking for is in the "Quilty Formulas" chart. Hope this helps. carol/kittyquilt

Glad you got them, Rose92. They are very helpful, just used one this morning. Thanks for trying Quilter7. I've tried some links and they don't go direct either. HUGS< carol/kittyquilt
