applique

Post by Sew-L-Sister » Tue Apr 22, 2008 5:12 pm

I am an avid applique quilter. I love the hand stuff but even though I have been quilting for 30 years, I still have trouble with the inner sharp crevices such as on a flower petal. Does anyone have any new technique I haven't tried yet. I use fray check but hate putting chemicals on my quit.

I don't know if this would help but what about using clear thread and making a couple of sm stitches in the sharp creases to keep that from fraying? Do you clip right into the tight crease? Not sure that I am saying this right. LOL I would be concerned that even a sm. amt of chemical might "yellow" after a while. I sure hope there are others that might know. Let me know what you find that works please.

I haven't been appliqueing for 30 years, but running a small basting stitch just inside your sewing line on each side of the bottom of the V and then one teeny stitch at the bottom of it might help.

I always put a stitch dead center of the v and that seems to help. the thread has to match really well or it looks bad.
