Leaving 2" borders unquilted...?

Post by HomespunMary » Fri Apr 18, 2008 12:27 am

I've almost finished the quilting on a quilt with a an overall Irish chain design. I've stitched in the ditch around all the squares (2") in the chains, and quilted (stippled) all the larger areas in between. Now I'm stuck on what to do with the 2" borders.

I have three borders: first a 2" border, then a 9" one (that I have quilted) and then another 2" border. I'm tempted to leave the two 2" borders unquilted, but afraid it might look a bit strange. (On the other hand, the 2" squares in the chains are also "unquilted areas", and that looks fine to me.)

How do you do? Do you leave your 2" borders unquilted?

Since the squares are 2", I think I would not quilt in the 2" border. But it's your quilt, do what makes you happy.
