Paper Piecing Help

Post by Bransmom » Mon Dec 31, 2007 9:49 am

I want to learn to Paper Piece. I've tried it once (not so good) and have watched a ton of on line video's and read lots of stuff, just seems so "backwards" to me.

Can anybody offer any help? Sometimes I feel dumber than a tree stump and this is one of them!

Thanks!

Yup, watched videos and read lots of instructions.

Just thought someone had some hints or tips. Like I said it all seems backwards to me!

I started with a book called "teach me to paper piece" it is by Carol Doak.... or something like Doak....Anyway, I found the book used on Amazon... it only has one design, a heart, but if you start small you can move up to bigger things later....

I found that one trick is to set your machine so it does alot of stitches per inch.... that way the paper is easier to tear off.... also, trim the excess fabric as you go, it really helps....

Good luck, it is fun once you get on a roll.... remember, start small and move up.

Use an old needle and tight stitch length. Amie

Love Paper Piecing. Carol Doak's books are really nice and since they some with a DVD for printing out the foundations it makes it easy to practice. I took a class at a local shop and was shown some "tricks" that made it make sense.

I'm working on the Carol Doak project Marlynsgrammy talked about. The book has really good instructions, but I still managed to mess up the first 2 blocks I tried, so plan for some trial runs. I really like the process and the look of the finished product, though removing the paper when you are finished is tedious.
