Oasis, I have looked at the gallery only once. I haven't had much time in the last few days to really get into it. Hopefully I will be able to dedicate some time to it on Monday.

Oasis - yeah, I think it would be a nice idea to start up a "what kind of machine do you use"-thread. That would be interesting.

And, now I too have signed up for the free border class att QuiltU!

Ollie1shoe. . . .

go into the website www.quiltuniversity.com and go to Student Orientation or Roadmap. There is alot of info on these two pages. Once you choose your class and pay for it (except for the free class "Crossing Borders') they will e-mail you a password that is just for you and you can sign on anytime you want and then follow the class. There is also a list of materials that you will need to follow along with the instructions. Go into the galleries and look at some of the students work/quilts and just browse around and see if it might be something you want to do. There a few of us that are taking the free class. HomespunMary has taken the machine quilting class and said it was very basic but she learned a lot.
Have Fun,

HOMESPUNMARY! Quilt University is really a great site I just happened to get into the site...dumb luck, I guess. Your practice piece is really nice. Do you need to have audio when you take the classes? My speakers have never worked nor my new printer, wish I could get my bother to come over and fix it. We are both retired...he as a principal at a middle school and I was a high school teacher for 19 years.

What season is it in Sweden now? Thanks for including your picture.

Pilot2b, you don't need any audio stuff, but a working printer would certainly be useful and maybe even necessary. You get a lot of material that you will want to print out and save, and for the machine quilting class we got a couple of quilting motifs (one was the butterfly in the picture below) to use for practice so you'd need to print that.

As for the machine quilting class, for learning meandering and stippling and the like, I'd just like to clarify one thing so noone misunderstood: when I said it was very basic, I meant that in a good way. It really took you thoroughly through all the things an absolute beginner would otherwise not have thought of, and really made the whole experience of trying free motion quilting very fun and rewarding!

i want to thank everyone for their advice. I just completed the quilt and it came out great. I ended up doing it with the feed dogs up. I didn't like the freedom without the feed dogs up. Maybe with practice. But, thanks for the help
