I have made cross stitch labels, written with the proper pen(and heat set), but when I make a family quilt, I do something different.
Made by my name, 2nd line-wife of my husband. 3rd line-son of with his mother/and or father's name. 4th line, Made for(name I am giving this to), 5th line-daughter of (parent's name), 6th line-for graduation, or wedding to, with the last line, saying the date and year.etc. It is a little history of who, what, where, and why.
The town where the maker and receiver is also included. Signed by
my name at the bottom. This gives information to the heirs so they know where and who this belonged to. It is not necessary, but I have sometimes sewed a pocket near the bottom, and also included a small piece of materials that were in the quilt. Sometimes through error, a mistake is made with a tear, and the person receiving the quilt has been happy to have that piece, and also some thread is put in if I top stitched with a special color. All for fun, and history and done with love.
