Another one I like is TransWeb. It doesn't have the little grid that you can see through light fabrics.

So when you sew around the applique do you have to cover the feed dogs? I can't lower mine. My machine is a low-end Singer, not too fancy. What type of foot do you use? I tried to do applique on curtains for my son's room. The applique'd pieces were cars and I just could not get a smooth sewing line around the curves. It looks herky-jerky. But they are up high so you can't tell.

LynnS - did you use a stabilizer under your applique when you were doing it by machine. Here's a $$$ saving tip: I use ironed coffee filters as stabilizer for under my machine applique. Works great.

THERE ARE ALOT OF GREAT TIPS HERE. APPLIQUE IS A CHALLEGE OF MINE ALSO. I DON'T FEAR IT OR DREAD IT, I JUST HOPE IT LOOKS PLEASING TO THE EYE, ESPECIALLY ON THESE RR'S. I THANK YOU, TOO, FOR THE TIPS!

Re: WonderUnder and Applique
Cindyg, what I did was iron on a paper (I forget what it's called) to the back of the fabric, then I cut the shapes I wanted and decided how I wanted them layered. I had different fabrics to make up each car applique. Then I peeled off the other backing on the paper/fabric shapes and ironed them all in order. Then I ironed the whole thing to the curtain. All of the edges were raw. Then I sewed along the edges of the applique and around all of the misc. pieces that were on them. I just did a straight stitch. I wanted to do a better stitch but I was having a hard time controlling the needle placement.

LynnS - it does take a little practice but it's not hard to do a satin stitch around your applique pieces. You just need to go real slow until you get the hang of it. Also you need to use a tear-away stabilizer on the back to your fabric won't bunch of roll. That's what I use the coffee filters for.

How do you use the coffee filters? Do they go on the back of the "main" piece? Sorry if that's a dumb question..

Re: WonderUnder and Applique
Thank you all so much for your input on this. I have been practicing for the past few days just trying to go around differnt shapes. So last night I decided it was time to try an actual block. So here is my first applique block...

I still need to work on my sharp curves, but I think with a little more practice I will get better.
Again, thanks very much for your incouragement...

Your snowman's so cute. I don't see anything wrong with him! Looks perfect to me.
What method did you decide on?
