Hand quilting does not have to hurt your wrist, fingers or shoulders. I use the Aunt Becky method as I have arthritis very bad in my hands. You move very little if you do it correctly. And with Jean Browns hoop you can turn it any way and that takes the pain out of the shoulder. You should be quilting straight down toward your belly. This keeps your arm and body from being in a twist. I'm doing a queen size quilt in my lap and this method actually limbers my hands up. Some times I can't make fist when I start but after an hour of quilting I find that my hands and fingers get limberd up. jan

Thank you all for the information.
Minniemouse, can you tell me where I can get any information on the Aunt Becky method? I'm not sure I have ever seen it before.
Thanks again, PamM

Hi Pam, There used to be a video on quilterstv.com but they must have removed it as I can't find it now. I did a search on it and really couldn't find a good demonstration of it. Jean Brown does have a website but I don't think she have the demo on it. I'm going to call her and see if she might be able to post it. This is the only way that I could hand quilt with the arthritis in my hands and it is really quite simple when you learn how to do it. It's just like doing regular hand quilting in that you have to practice to improve your technique. As soon as I can get more info I'll post it for you. jan in Punxsutawney
