Quilt is stiff

Post by quilter4ever23 » Mon Nov 28, 2011 11:14 am

is it normal for a quilt to be stiff when hand quilting it. im using fairfeild extra loft batting for my table runner. to me it just feels very stiff. i would like to know what could be causing the stiffness and if it will soften up after the first wash?

Most of my tablerunners have been stiff at first..regardless of how I quilt them. If you don't wash your fabric first..there is sizing in it that kind of makes it stiff until it's washed. All my tablerunners soften up after washing.

I've never used the extra loft batting though, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not.

@Joanne- Thanks for the advice. I'll have to see how it turns out after i was it. i didnt prewash my backing and i dont think any of the fabrics used to piece the top were either so that could most likely be the cause. thanks again. its so nice to be able to talk to fellow quilters such as your self. may god bless you always.

Casey, come over to the section "sew ins" and read our daily "chat"! Alot of us just share what we are doing for the day, what we are working on, etc. It's a great place to just "get acquainted"! Welcome to the forum!!
