There is a video of Eleanor doing a quilt as you go Christmas stocking and the video for that is over in the media theater.

Just scroll through them and you will find it.

You might try looking up "The Cotton Theory" (Betty Cotton) on line. She has lots of patterns that are quilt as you go and the back looks almost as good as the front.

I have not quilted for awhile. I'm actually having trouble sewing a four patch block and get my seam evenly matched. I will also need some instruction ideas on this quilt. I had started these two projects when in 2009 (November) I broke my ankle. Slow healing of seven months (may be due to aging; also diabetes) Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hi lovenan,

El shows how she does four patch blocks using both strips and squares in her video on the Jewel Box quilt. It's in the theater in the From Scraps to Quilts section. She says that people have told her they have the best luck getting the seams matched by using her "nesting" method.

For quilts made that block, google images using "four patch quilts" and there are a bunch of ideas.

Keep us posted on how you're doin'!

Hi Quiltlikgrandma--Are you handquilting or machine quilting your quilt? If handquilting, please first thread baste your quilt. As we say at our quilting circle in my church, "it'll quilt out." When you put your quilt in your hoop, smooth it out on the under side and begin in the center and work out toward the edges. It'll be fine. If you are machine quilting, that's another story for me. I only machine quilt on small pieces like table runners, etc. and I pin baste and only stitch in the ditch. I leave the patterns to the experts. If you're using a large frame, you will first put down the backing, then the batting and lastly the quilt. No wrinkles whatsoever. The frame needs almost an entire room for a quilt unless you have one of the new frames that no more than three people can sit at. We use both types, but prefer the old fashioned style. Hope this helps.

Hi All,
I would like to make the twice as nice quilt but am having trouble figuring out the measurement of the strips so that I can use the 9.5inch square up ruler.
So far it is not turning out like it does on the video.
