Stippling around Prairie Points

Post by toekeyotow » Mon Mar 21, 2011 3:07 am

I made a lap quilt that I put a 1 1/2' border then prairie points then a 5" border after the points. My question is how do I keep the points from wanting to stand up after I quilt the 1 1/2" border and the 5" border.

Hope my question isn't too confusing. Joan

Joan- Do you think top stitching/stitch in the ditch would help them to lay flat??? Just a thought.

You could just tack them down with a couple of stitches on the point, or quilt a quarter inch inside the seam all the way around each one I guess. I would just leave them "flap"..lol!

if you don't want them to stand up - I agree with Joanne and would suggest tacking down the point with a stitch or two at the point.

you could try the stitch in the ditch too - just be sure that the seam underneath is pointing in the right direction - then they won't stand up either.

good luck and I like that quilt!

I think I would do top stitching about 1/8" away from the seam to make the points lay down some but I personally wouldn't tack down the points. Cute scrappy quilt BTW. The prairie points make it, don't they?

Thank You all for your ideas on the points. This is my first time with prairie points and I just didn't know it was alright if they kinkd of just stood up at least they do on the frame. Hpefully I will be taking it off the frame later today. I will post how it cames out. PS. this is also my first time with free motion stippling, one bad thing is I used muslin for the back so all mistakes will show. I'm just having a kick in the pants learning. Thanks Again, Joan

Joan - I learned real quick to use a busy fabric on the back because every little boo-boo shows on a solid especially if you use a thread that doesn't match perfectly. Practice practice practice.
