Double irish Chain Yardage
I have a quilt in a day book for the Double Irish Chain by Eleanor Burns. On page 44/45 it lists yardage.
I am doing the king size quilt.
Why do I need 5 yards for the background fabric?
I need to cut 12 2.5 inch strips which equals 30 inches of fabric.
I need to cut 10 3 inch strips which equals 30 inches of fabric.
Total 60 inches.
Five feet not five yards.
What am I figuring wrong?
The whole row of yardages for the Background fabric is off and all the rest work out.

You got me - I would e-mail El's helpers at QIAD - they could answer your question best - I know that there are some corrections to the books over in the Customer Service section -
Good luck - they are very good at answering back

Without even looking at my book I am pretty sure you need 5 yds of background for a king size quilt. I made that quilt several years ago and it takes almost 10 yds total for a king quilt. Good luck

Re: Double irish Chain Yardage
I'm looking at my book from 1986, it looks like the measurements are a bit different...
Did you figure in the light strips for the alternate block? (background fabric with corner squares - approx 6" wide strips), It looks like that is where most of the yardage comes in.
Good luck!

Deborah:
Did you ever get an answer to your question? I made the queen size quilt a couple of years ago and needed every bit of fabric.
Am curious how it worked out for you.
