Donna, I have found that over the years I have done several things that can cause this. Start by accurate cutting, the next thing would be a good 1/4" seam, followed by a careful press. Then there is the strech factor, which sometimes makes a real mess. I would try looking at the way I cut, then the seams and then the press. If the cutting is on the bias, be extra careful and maybe even starch heavy on these areas.
I think everyone has had this happen over time and if you are as lucky as I have been, it will happen again sometimes. Don't be discouraged, it's all part of the process I guess.
Pam.

Wiggy... welcome... does your block puff up in the middle because there are so many seams in one spot? read the directions one more time, usually El has a way to avoid this by unsewing a couple of stitches so the seams can go in different directions.. I know.. it's totally confusing but check the directions again to see if ther is a way to avoid the puff in the middle

Hi Donna,

The block would be squared up to 12 1/2" - so that it is a 12" block when put together with other blocks. It sounds like you are doing it right, just be careful not to cut off those 1/4" seam allowances.

Donna another thing with diamonds is starting your seam at the 1/4" seam line instead of at the edge.
