To starch or not to starch

Post by CoyoteQuilts » Thu Aug 13, 2009 6:05 pm

I just was directed to this site. How awesome, I'll have to try it. I do starch, but not as much as this.

That is very interesting. It's like the way we would startch and store our clothes before we would iron years ago.

I remember my mother using this method on my dad's uniform shirts. She would wash them, dry them on the line outside, spray and starch them, roll them up and put in the refrigerator overnight. Next day she would iron them. If she was'nt careful, the shirts would stand up by themselves after they were ironed.
I'm not sure that I want my quilt to be this stiff. Hand quilting may be a problem.

Same thing at my house growing up. Starch, sprinkle, roll up and put in the ice box. I think I'll stick to my Mary Ellen's Best Press.

I too grew up doing shirts like this - no more!! I love Mary Ellen's Best Press. When my boys didn't want to take the time to do their white shirts for Sunday meetings - they would cheat and throw them in the dryer to remove the wrinkles!! LOL

that is the way i still do my ironing, but then i still starch and iron my sheets. i love the feel of crisp sheets. now when my kids were teenagers i starched and creased thier jeans, one day my daughter, 13 at the time told me she wished i would stop doing that because after i left for work at 6 in the morning her and her brothers had to spend a lot of time getting the creases out of thier jeans, "mom, no one wears creases but you" i stopped doing thiers but i still do mine, :-) can't get this ole gal to wear something not pressed and crisp. i just feel weird. i even iron my tee shirts.

I have to admit that I too am one that irons most of my things. I haven't gotten so bad as to iron sheets yet but it's only cause I don't have time. But I love crisp sheets. I iron my tee shirts too. I'm a 'full figured gal' and I can't, rephrase that to won't, do anything about it but I don't want to be big and sloppy too. I guess we all have our own little idiosyncrasies that make us all unique.....jan sweating in PA
