Hanging a quilt
What do I make on the back of the quilt to hang on wall?

Re: Hanging a quilt
I use a sleeve - a fabric tunnel - I usually sew it on as I add the binding. When I fold the binding to the back, the sleeve is already caught and the binding finshes as usual. The other side of the tunnel is hand closed to the quilt back, by a blind stitch. I then place a dowel rod thru the sleeve on which the hooks on the wall rest. Depending on the the orientation of the quilt pattern, I have sometimes used 2 sleeves - one 90 degrees to each other - one on the side and one on the top. I can then rotate the quilt. I use leftover fabric from the quilt or a piece of muslin.
Also I leave space at the ends of the quilt for the hooks on the wall to slide under to hold it. You can also do this in the middle of the sleeve if it is extra wide.
The sleeve is a piece of fabric, folded in half - wrong sides together - with the raw edge together and then attached to the quilt edge.
Hope this helps

Depending on the width of the piece, you can put several shorter sleeves along the top edge, rather than one long one. I stitch them in place before sewing on the binding; make them about 2-4 inches shorter than your finished piece so they don't show.
You can use a rod to hang them and there are even decorative filials that add to the look. We bought lengths of 2" wide unfinished molding and nailed the molding straight to the wall. Drawback being if you need to take them down for cleaning, you leave holes in your walls
