Oh did I goof :( Disaster
I got the first of the two lap quilts for my cousins done. Not too bad (and they really won't be able to tell where all my goofs are). I did tie it as I need them both before mother's day. Here is the big disaster. after I got it done I used a pigma pen (it is very thin) and wrote near the binding Missy's name and by me and the date. It is really messy in my opinion. It measures about 6" long and about a 1/2 or less wide. Any suggestions on how I could cover it up and start again? I really don't know if I could wash it off and don't want to try. I am afraid I will end up with a black blob. ANY adivse would be so greatly apprciated. Thank you

Chrissy1, I would make a fabric label, either doubled fabric or something medium or dark fabric so the writing doesn't show through and just sew it over your "mistake"...do your writing on the fabric before you sew it on. I do that with all my quilts...that way, if I don't like it, or I goof, I just make another one! Usually, I will use a decorative stitch on my machine to sew it on.

another label is a good idea, I went to a guild meeting recently and the speaker said she adds "back art" over her errors and no one ever notices they think that her "back art" is planned.

I should have written on the fabric first, but I wasn't sure that it was going to be for Missy or Cindy. I guess I will slowly but surely learn from my mistakes. Thanks for all the adivse.

Also, iron a piece of freezer paper on the back of the fabric you are going to write on, it will stablize it.
You can write on paper first and trace using a light box or just a window (tape both in place).

How about getting a non-washable marker that matches the fabric you wrote on and blot it. Try a sample piece of the fabric first. I have done this with clothing when something got on it and didn't wash out. It worked.

I cross-stitch my labels before sewing to the back of the quilt. I stitch the writing and then often will add some little thing that connects with the quilt or the person, like a little evergreen tree, star, or flower. I usually sew a border onto the label from scraps of fabric from the quilt. Back it with another piece of fabric if necessary to completely block the writing you are trying to hide. Then just hand-stitch it on. And know that just about everyone has done this very thing! I know, I sure have! Good luck!
