Sashing Quilt Blocks

Post by npollard » Wed Feb 11, 2009 1:13 pm

I'm piecing together a baby quilt for my daughter's friend and I would like to do sahing between the blocks. Is there a correct direction to start? Any helpful hints would be appreciated :)

I don't know if there's a 'correct' direction to start, but I like to put strips on the sides of the block first then go across. I also prefer to use cornerstones in order to help keep the blocks aligned properly. I don't know if this is the best way, but it's the way I do it.

I do it just like Sharon does... but I agree, there isn't a "right" way

hope you post a picture of your quilt.

No quilt police here.....find the way that is the easiest for you and sew away.

Fons & Porter showed a neat way not long ago & I tried it & really liked it.--Sew to one side & on the lower edge of the block (lower edge added a corner stone. Then sew the sides into rows and then sew the rows together. On the blocks that were going to be the side egde of the quilt I sewed the sashing strip to both sides. It's sort of like making each block into a shadow block.Hope that's helpful,Dana
