how to down size a quilt
i have made the candy cane lane quilt from els book christmas at bear paws i would like to make another one smaller to give for a house warming gift for a friend would like to make it look like it is proportioned right dont know the best way to do it you start with 4 inch strips then cut them up just wandered if i started with 3 inch strips how it might turn out has anyont made this pattern and im open for suggestions thanks

Ollie, for a pattern like that, with only equally sized squares, I can't see any problems at all in just choosing more narrow strips/squares. That is, if you choose 3" strips (or 2 1/2" or even 2") and then follow the pattern just as if it had been 4" strips, my guess is that you should be fine! I have done that on other patterns, but never made a candy cane lane, so hopefully someone else will jump in and tell if I'm wrong.

Sure, Glenda! Just cut the strips narrower and/or use fewer of them.

Ollie, I think you just use fewer fabrics. I went to her class on TAW and this summer made a Quick Quarter Trip. To make the different sizes, you just keep adding more and more fabrics. For ex.: a wallhanging might have 16 strips, a twin 24, queen 36, etc. I saw a picture, on here I think, that only had five or six fabrics.
