Re: The small trapunto-beginners' group
I don't know girls....I just can't seem to get going on this. Every time I think I'm going to have time, something else pops up. Even if I don't get to it right now, I am keeping track. My little singing group has had several performances lately, and a few extra practices. There is not one open day on my calendar next week. What happened to my retirement!!!!! Now there is some canning to do from the garden, which I am not very good at. I'm putting a notice in the Chat section to find a good pickled beets recipe. Maybe this weekend will give me some time to at least find a pattern for the trapunto.

We will still be here for you when you can have some time and can have fun with this Diane. No pressure.
Maria,
Maybe a black permanent marking pen or a pigma pen that we use to sign a quilt with would work on the white dots. Just barely touch them.
Your McTavishing is ravishing!!!!!!! Looks wonderful. Maybe your "swirl" doesn't need any quilting. Just go around the very edges and that way the fairy frost fabric will be the focus. Or send a picture to Quilt University for some help from the teacher you had. They would probably love to see THIS quilt also. It is so unique.
Let me know,
Linda
I just went down and looked at it again. Maybe start with small swirls at the small end and just keep continuing them getting larger as you go. You could use some irridescent thread to keep in tune with the fairy frost. But I think I would try QU first and see what they suggest.

Re: The small trapunto-beginners' group
Linda, that was a brilliant idea with the pigma pen! THANKS! I would never have thought of that!!! Will try it on Saturday when I get back to my real home (where I have all sorts of permanent markers).
As for quilting in the swirls, I'm beginning to think that I'll try to quilt small spirals/swirls inside them, with silver metallic thread. I have already quilted around them on the applique line. But, the quilting in the black around them has pulled the quilt top together a bit so the swirls really need to be "quilted down" a bit.
The more I think about it, the more I wish had trapuntoed them...
Diane, don't stress over this! Just get onto it whenever you have time, even if it is next year or next decade, LOL! However, it would be very nice to see a pic of your finished worm quilt. If you have posted one in the Photo section I must have missed it... I'm very curious to hear and see how it worked out with the glow-in-the-dark thread

Re: The small trapunto-beginners' group
I think I should get a prize for being the most indecisive person in the world, LOL! I did quilt swirls in the swirls, but didn't like it so I took out the quilting again. Instead, I quilted long lines following the outline of the swirls. Of course I didnt like that either, so I also took it out. And, decided to try another trapunto method instead
So, I cut out batting the shape of the swirls/spirals (using my paper templates):

Then cut into the quilt sandwish (and the regular batting) from the back, in the middle of the swirls:

Stuffed the slits with the batting:

And sewed it all together again:

Obviously this was a very bad method if anyone is going to lok at the back, but since this is a wallhanging I decided it was worth a try. And, I liked the result better than the previous attempts at quilting

Re: The small trapunto-beginners' group
Don't know if you read my post in "Chit Chat" but lost my monitor several days ago. DS is down today and set up my old little laptop to get me through until my new computer is set up. I sure don't like this little screen. LOL
I keep wanting to try the Trapunto, but my new embroidery machine is taking all my brain cells at the moment. There is soooo much to learn between the computer, software, and the machine itself. Husqvarna sent me a 3-page e-mail on how to register my machine so I can get updates. Somehow you have to register with your machine hooked up to your computer and do all kinds of computer type things that I don't have a clue about. But am going to a friend's place next week and hope to get it all done. The machine itself is fantastic and is very user friendly. I can make my designs on my computer (when I have one again), download it onto my flashdrive and load it into my machine and voila...there it is. It is so cool.
Your swirl is gorgeous Maria. Will be anxious to see how it all turns out. You just amaze me.
Anyway, just wanted to touch base.

Thanks, grammy2!
Diane, sure sounds like you're busy with your new super machine! Hope you got your computer fixed by now.
For my part, I think I'll soon be onto a new trapunto project. I'm making lady bug blocks, but haven't decided 100% if I'll trapunto them or not, but most likely I will.
