Pinwheel block

Post by BamaGirl1 » Wed May 07, 2008 7:18 am

I am trying to make a pinwheel block quilt. I am going by the directions in EB's Egg Money Quilts book. It looks like you remove some of the stitches in the center of the block to make the center "lie down" and not be so bulky. I'm concerned that my quilt will fall apart if I take these stitches out. How to I prevent my quilt from completely coming apart?

You are only removing 2-3 stitches in the seam allowance when you do this process, your quilt will not fall apart

I love the pinwheel block - and hope to make a quilt using this block. I had to laugh, though, at the honest comment made by Bama Girl - I'd worry too. But I guess when the whole quilt is finished and actually "quilted," those center places will not budge.
But I think that's a legitimate concern, Bama Girl. What are your colors?

When stitching the seam that crosses the middle, I do a little backstitch right at that point knowing that I am going to be undoing those stitches next to it later. Hope this made sense. I think it will when you are sewing the seam.
Have Fun,
