quilting applique that is raw edge fused and is a landscape
I fused a quilt that is a pattern by Esterita Austin that is a picture of a street in Sienna, Italy. Now I need to quilt it. What size thread will look best and should I use a stabilizer? What kind of batt would be best as it is quite a detailed picture to quilt? thanks, Jan J

drj - sorry no one has answered you. I have never done such a quilt so I'm afraid I can't help you either.

drj - after rereading your post I think I would use a very low loft cotton batting since your quilting will be so detailed. Are you going to be thread painting this quilt?

Re: quilting applique that is raw edge fused and is a landscape
Sorry I need to use photobucket to send in Photos. Will do as soon as I get home on Tuesday. I went to an open quilting class and the teacher had a beautiful landscape quilt top that she had sewn on with monofilament to secure the edges before making the quilt sandwich. She used plain monofilament to sew the light areas and smoke for the darker areas. Then she'll quilt it later as well. I think I put this question on another forum here at qiad, so I'll have to read that one as well. This quilt is a pattern of Esterita Austin and it is quite nice. The quilt is also featured with instructions on the technique on Simply Quilts on hgtv.com. Esterita has her own site esteritaaustin.com She invented misty fuse and transdoodle which are used in her applique technique. The Sienna quilt is not shown on her site. It is a perspective view of a street in the city in Italy from a stone archway. Thanks for answering my question, Jan
