What do you put on your labels?

Post by quiltwithmom » Sat Apr 05, 2008 10:52 am

I have done labels before but I wonder if some of you could let me know what you put on yours. The last two I did I just put the name of the quilt and by me and my city, state and date.

The name of the quilt
pieced by,..........
machine quilted by.........
the date

But that's just me. I usually don't quilt mine myself. I don't make hairloom quilts. They are ment to be used and I very much doubt any one will be looking for a label. I don't put labels on charity quilts.

I use a pigma pen and just write on back fabric of the quilt. I do it like this:

(Name of Quilt),
___________________________________
_______________________________________
_______________________________________
_______________________________________
___________________________________
______________________________________

Signed: _________________

It looks like a writen letter ready to be mailed.

I put the name (or pattern) of the quilt
Machine pieced and machine (or hand) quilted by me
City and State
Date
Stitched with love for_____________________
Sometimes I put the occasion the quilt was made for (like Christmas).
Sometimes I write a little personal note to the person.

I use the Uniball Micro Vision Pen (you can get them at Staples)

It depends on the quilt.

For the baby quilts (lots of great nieces/nephews) I put 'For Childs Full Name - Pieced and Quilted by Great Aunt My Full Name - Date'

If I've named my quilts I'll put the name of the quilt on the label as well.

Here are three labels I've done.

I use my embroidery machine to do my labels so I can't put too much info on them and I like to keep them about a 4 x 6 size. I always name my quilts (even if it's just the pattern name) and then the person I did it for (if I was doing it for someone specific) then my name, the date completed, and sometimes I'll even added my city and state.

These are great ideas. Thanks! I have done a couple on the computer and printed on fabric. I like the ones that are posted here. I don't have a embodery machine so that is why I use the computer. Before I use to hand write it like momof6quilts. Hand writing is nice if it is for a family member. I just like the computer prints so much better. You can be so creative with them.
