Side Triangles

I was trying to make a table runner and put my squares on point which requires side triangles. Well, I thought I just needed to use the same size square as my original squares, but have found that I needed to make it 1/4" bigger. I'll post pics later....the server from my website isn't working this morning so I'm having problems posting them. I've searched this forum up one side and down the other trying to find info BEFORE I cut them but didn't have any luck. Just thought I'd post to let someone else know.

I've done that before - forgot that I had to treat them as a triangle so I would need to figure in an extra 1/2" per square so that they would have the 1/4" when cut in half. Live and learn!

I got the Fons & Porter side triangle ruler. It is a joy. you cut the pieces out of a streight length of fabric so the outside edges are on streight of grain. It has measure ments for side and corner triangles.

Sandy, would you recommend the F&P ruler for a beginner? I haven't seen one but it sounds like it would be very helpful. Thanks!

Cathy, yes I would. It comes with instructions and there is probably a video on their website.
