There is a book called "Hidden in Plain View" by J Toblin that addresses the use of quilts in the Underground Railroad. Some critics have poo-fooed her story but I find it very interesting and quite believable. I would send you my book, BUT my DD borrowed it a few months ago - all you Moms know what that's about!! You are really blessed to have possession of that beautiful quilt.

Thanks for all of the interest. I have ordered the book you recommended, Hidden in Plain View along with several other books as my curiosity continues. The two brown blocks were originally brown, and each of the two blocks have a different print on them. I was just in a quilting class and the teacher said that the two colors would make sense - especially for the Underground Railroad - the blue symbolizing water and the brown, land. It is going to be quite an undertaking to restore the quilt - but believe it will be well worth it as well as trying to find out the story behind it! Please continue with comments, suggestions and I will keep you informed of any information I find out.

Thanks again
