how to trace pattern from a quilt you already have

I have an old (antique) butterfly quilt that I wanted to copy - I made a photocopy of the butterflies on my printer/copier, then pasted to plastic template, and cut out. Worked slick!

plastic templates would work, lay on block and trace with marker just remember to add for seam lines when cutting .
