Post by HERTA » Mon Jun 04, 2007 12:52 am

Good Morning to all my friends, my next project is going to be a Log Cabin quilt, I have no idea how to quilt the top, can I stipple or mender this quilt, or do I have to stitch in the ditch, how do you Ladies sew your log cabin Quilts, I would appreciate any help I can get. Herta

I'm sure you can do any of those ways, just whatever you feel comfortable with, so go for it!

I always let the quilt decide - it usually reminds me of something and that is what I go with - you could meander - do loops and swirls - trees- cabins around the edge - waves if it reminds you of water just
what do you see when you look at it

I'm with you gardenquilter. I don't know what I will do until it's done.

I saw Eleanor on an instructional DVD talking about machine quilting. She said if you have a lot of turning to do when you are stitching in the ditch, you can stitch in the ditch with free motion. I haven't tried it yet. Don't know how difficult it would be to stay in the ditch, but it can't be more difficult than turning a large quilt when machine quilting a log cabin quilt.

Forgot to tell you - CIRCLES (across the logs) look gorgeous too - but that was done by a long-arm quilting machine ...

Do what you want. If this is going to be a bed quilt I would absolutely quilt it heavier than a wall hanging. Lots of different designs look beautiful on the log cabin block.
