Flying Geese HELP!

Post by tcbeginner » Sat Dec 29, 2007 3:17 pm

Help! I have been practicing making “Flying Geese” and everyone I complete is wrong! I haven’t received the “Flying Geese” template yet, but I can tell they are wrong. The bottom of the triangle is greater than 4.5 inches. That means that the triangle is going to be flat instead of pointed. I’m ready to give up. Can anyone help?

It's been years since I've tried this without the templates. Have you watched the online video? I know some of her videos shows her doing it both ways. I'll try to do a search and see if I can find the instructions.

Hi TC have you watched the video? You might want to wait till your rulers come in to make them. Are you making the 2 x 4 geese? You will trim them up to 2 x 4 after they are sewed together. Here is a link to the video if you haven't seen it. Hope this helps :)

I have watched the video about ten times...no luck. The quilt pattern I am making is Northern Star, the pattern says, square geese to 2.5 x 4.5. This is just driving me crazy!

The part the concerns me now is...I have all my fabric cut to follow the directions in my book. I'll check out some of the other links. THANKS!

I just looked at the instructions, I really think you need to wait for your rulers to come in, You will use the ruler to square them up to 4 1/2 inches on the bottom, it really will work out after you lay the ruler on your geese and you will see how they line up. The geese are a bit oversized, then when you trim they will be the correct size. Does this help you? Please let me know :)

If you are following the directions with the 2 squares, your 'geese' will be oversized until you use the flying geese rulers. DON'T PANIC!! Eleanor makes things oversized most of the time so that they can be PERFECT when they are trimmed.

We won't let you go wrong!! Hang in there!

You all are right! I measured one the "old fashion way" at it took forever, but looks great. I need the template/ruler, when that arrives I think everything will be correct. I was just in panic mode. :-)
