Susanna, what a nice idea! El gives us so much; I like the idea of giving back to her.

Send along more details when you have recovered from your week of leisure--lol!

Any size, any color.

For beginners, you can take a square, draw a heart and stich over it with a contrasting color.

Or cut out a heart and fuse it on the square, stitch it in place.

Or take a piece of felted wool to stitch onto your block, which does not require fusing or turn under applique.

LOL, if you have trouble binding it, I can bind it for YOU. Sue bouchart showed me how to do the binding both sides on the machine.

If you ladies please will write on the back your name, state or country where you live, and date it 11-15-2007, which is the date El's Mom passed away.

PM me for my address to send your quilted blocks to.

Thank you ladies for doing this.

Susanna, so these are going to be like the prayer blocks? We're going to make one heart, quilt it, and send to you, correct??

This is all new to me (prayer blocks, I mean) and I'm still getting the hang of them!

I'm a little lost. Are we sending unfinished blocks to be put in a quilt, or small 1 block quilts. Could you give more info. Lori

I'm still a little confused about this. Are we doing blocks to make into a quilt or are these blocks finished? It seems there'll be way too many for single blocks. What will El do with so many single finished blocks?

What would anyone do with so many finished blocks? IMHO

The quilted blocks are in lue of Sympathy cards.

I think El would Love to receive "Heart Around the World" quilt blocks instead of sympathy cards. It would mean a LOT to her.

I was at the QIAD retreat this whole week, and she invited us to her 'Bear Paw Ranch' for wine and cheese. The Ranch is all about quilts, small and large. El has many quilts, more then you can imagine. We were invited to her sewing studio, which is a building appart from the ranch house. Believe me, quilted blocks instead of cards would be very much in-line with what El stands for.

I choose the theme quilted 'Hearts Around the World' blocks
1) El is the author and creator of 'Trip Around the World'.
2) it would let El know that El's relationship with her Mom is honored by a lot of quilters around the world.
3) Quilted blocks are easier kept then card.
4) El can share those blocks with her other family members IF she would think it would give them comfort after losing their Mom/GrandMa/Ant/Sister....

Please, do not feel pressured or obligated to participate.
I am shooting to have all those blocks to El before years end.

Feel free to post any additional suggestions about this subject.

I understand that these are to be finished anyway you want. Any size, with/without batting. They are prayer blocks.

This is all new to me too. I would guess El can put them all in a very large basket in her cabin.

Kittyquilt9292, I am fond of the log cabin heart blocks also.

You can make a square block from fabric with hearts printed on it.

You can applique the block.

You can use fabric paint to make the heart on the block.

You can embroider a heart on it.

You can make it as simple or as involved as you want.

You can echo quilt it around the heart.

You can leave it UN-quilted, or only stich in the ditch if you sew a sashing around the block.

You can make a quilted block with a little pocket on the block, in which you can slip a little fabric heart into it.

You can cut out two heart shapes from felt, blanket sticht them together, write, paint or embroider your name on it (Don't forget your state/Country and 11-15-2007)
