Is It an Illusion or Just old age???

Post by mcmema » Tue Nov 13, 2007 4:05 am

I went into Price chopper the other day.where I shop all the time.Only this time I went in the opposite door I usually enter in.. when I started shopping I drew a blank!! couldnt remember anything I needed or where it was!!! Got half way through the store with little shopping done!! I must confess I had to go way over on the other end of the store and start by the door where I normally do!!! what a rush!!!
Now tell me, can any one explain that one??

Well, I think we have an aweful lot of things on our minds. There are some things we really don't have to put thought into and we run on automatic..such as your trip to the store. If you had gone in the door you "always" go in there would have been no problem. When you went in the opposite door, your "automatic" had to be switched off. Give yourself a break, breathe deeply, and relax. There's nothing wrong..and warn your "auto-pilot" a little ahead of time!..

The very same thing happened to me at Costco. When we first walked in my DH wanted to go immediately to the demo area where they were handing out samples (which was opposite of the way we usually go) I forgot to get bout half the items I wanted to & some that I wanted to check to see if they carried. So my DH said maybe we should always go the opposite way & we would save a lot of money. I assured him that I could learn to adjust. LOL Been having too many of those moments lately but don't know anything to do about it but laugh & adjust to life in the moment (since that is all I seem to be able to do) So, LOL< LOL< LOL< LOL!!!!!

My theory is that our brains have a special department in our feet...

like when trek from the bedroom to the kitchen to get something, and when you get there you can't remember what you came for...

so, you go back to the bedroom and the minute your feet hit the bedroom floor you remember!!

Jennie you post where ever you want to, we all read everywhere anyway so it doesn't really matter.

I think we all do the memory thing. They just remodled my local Joann's and moved the entance door! Everyone still parks in the same area and then we all grumble because we have to walk all around to get to the new door. Then when we get in (I always go at 9:00 AM so am with the first groupies to arrive) we all just sort of look at each other and laugh because we are all thinking the same thing "Where was I going to go first"! LOL

I absolutely have to have a list when I go shopping anywhere for anything.
Have Fun,

I think this is perfectly normal Jennie. We get used to a certain path & when it is changed all of a sudden, we kind of go numb & have the lost feeling. Or I do. I am realising just how set in a pattern I am, about everything. And it is my fault because I stay in my comfort zone or in a box too much.LOL And I also think we get to going on autopilot and are so rattled at times, we have to go blank in order to get our bearings. You are fine Dear Jennie. If not, there are quite a few of us in the same boat with ya. LOL

This happens to me all the time so I guess we're in good company.

mcmema, It perfectly fine when you feel lost or forget your keys.
You have something to worry about when you forget what the keys are for.
