Quilts for boys with Cancer

Post by WeSignificant » Wed Mar 09, 2022 7:06 am

As many of you may have read, thete are two young boys (8 months and 12 years) who are going through Chemo treatments. These are boys that Izzy knows. The quilts we currently have would not be appropriate as they are really adult sizes. So I propose for the baby we can do 5 inch squares I spy type fabrics and for the young man IZZY can we get some input as to what might be appropriate.

If people want to send me the 5 inch charms I will put the top together. Thinking 50 x 50 inches would be a good size. I will need someone to quilt and bind.

As soon as I hear back from Izzy, I will for young man.

Thank you to all who has shown an interest in this project

I'll dig through stash ASAP and see what I can find... I might not have 5" but have some FQ's that could work.

Have had a discussion with Izzy, we are moving forward with the I Spy for the baby. So 5 inch charms with I spy things. Doesn't have to just be trucks etc, flowers, animals, houses, etc would all work. At 8 months, he has lots of the world to explore yet.

For the 12 year old, we will make a lego quilt.

Hang on while I make sure that worked. I'll be! I did it. I do not know what size those blocks are but I am deciding they are 4.5 x 8.5. I think we can also use solids or those fabrics that read solid from a distance. Primary colors are best. Please cut a bit on the bigger side to give me room for squaring up. I will make a throw size quilt for this one. So about 50 or so by 65 ish. Izzy will quilt the circles so it looks like legos. If anyone has appropriate border fabric that would be helpful too. I haven't looked yet so I may have some.

Pleases PM me if you have questions or need my address.

Maybe we should post how many of what we are sending so Valerie doesn't end up with 2000 of the 5" charms LOL or hundreds of the other blocks. Just a thought.
