I have a question about applique. If the quilt is going to be washed a lot, should I applique by hand or machine? I love doing hand applique but do not want all of that work to be damaged by washing.

Both methods would work fine. I make sure to wash all my quilts on gentle cycle.

I think that if you are unsure of how its going to be washed you are afraid that it wont be washed on the gentle cycle I would machine applique. But Bianca is right either should be fine.

I love my applique quilts. I do all of them using the needle turn method. If you make small stitches, your hand applique washes just fine. I've washed mine for years on gentle with no problem.
