I always wash the quilt after it is quilted to remove starch or any residue off of my hands like lotions, etc. not necessarily because it is dirty. I dearly love the crinkly look ya get when it has been washed & dryed. More like an antique look.

Tcbeginner - it should not hurt to wash your quilt. Hopefully it would get washed somewhere down the line anyway. I always wash my finished quilts before I give them away just to insure they are fresh and clean. If I have marked the quilt for quilting I wash it to make sure all the marks are gone. My dogs manage to 'help' me with my quilts so I use a lint roller on the quilts as I'm quilting them. And when I'm sewing on the binding the dogs like to get on the quilt even though I shoo them off quickly - so I wash it when I'm all done.

I love the way the Warm and Natural shrinks up when I wash. I can't wait to wash and dry and smell the Downey! The quilts instantly look old and loved. Amie

I take it this is a QOV you're talking about? Or maybe for some organization I haven't heard about? Anyway, good for you! I always wash my quilts because I like the crinkliness and cuddliness it acquires instantly, but you really don't have to.

I always wash my quilts when they are done. Gift quilts have a special piece of the quiltmaker in every stitch and I love the soft, cozy way they feel when they are washed.
Happy stitching!!
