You Cali girls are funny. :) There are lots of plowing businesses, so no shoveling, there are many road plows, so not stuck for long, and we don't get nearly the cold bad winters as they do in the Dakodas and Minisota etc, it's fairly mild here... We get minus weather about 2x a winter for a few days and that's about all. (Just don't go to Fairbanks, that place is COLD!!!)

DH just went off to bed, this is his normal time (8:30ish) but I am wide awake and will continue to work in my sewing room and chat with all of you that are still up for awhile. LOL This first week or so of the time change is always such fun, I don't really need any adjustment period but DH and DD do! Debi

How funny! Homeschooling was my DH's agenda as well. At first I just mentally responded, "Yeah. Riiiight!" But once the babies came along, I so enjoyed being home with them and just spending time with them, I began to research homeschooling on my own. It's a great option for families like ours, who are looking for alternatives to the government schools, but are unable to afford private or parochial school.

6Kids, that weather sounds like something even a wimp like me could handle. DH has always wanted a log home and he is retiring this fall. I just may have to work on this one. LOL Debi

You aren't just whistling Dixie, honey...Minnesota can be BUTT COLD! This California girl--and a native to boot--visited Minnesota over Christmas some years ago. It was so cold, the boogers inside your nose FREEZE! Talk about a weird sensation!

Debi, does your DH get up early for work, or is he like me, just an early riser by nature?

Yup, exactly, most of the mom's that live around here and tons in "The Valley" homeschool. AK is a very big state for it, my hubbies dad helped write the bill to make it legal. My husband has a diploma from his dad and he got a scholarship to Hillsdale College in MI. Lots of colleges like homeschoolers. We privately homeschool, but many friends participate in the "public funded" where you are a member of a school district that gives money for books etc, but they are more strict on what you can buy... I heard Cali is having hard times with it, do you know what's up?

LOL Carole, I remember that from growing up walking to the bus, I just don't go out in the winter anymore!!! I decided I'm NOT an outdorsy person and it's OK to stay inside and sew! Summer is different I'm crazy about my 2 acre yard. This summer we'll put up a horse fence (the pretty white kind) and hopefully start on a barn. The chickens are great for the kids, but we want goats or a cow.

Debi, does DH like Alaska? That would be fun! We border a farm and so does our neighbor (that back part has a fence for their horses) the place we bought used to be part of it, so not many trees, our neighbors with the log house got those. The wind can be bad here in the winter, but again, good reason to stay in. They also have a large pole barn, a shed and outhouse. The just got electricty this year, lived with out for many years.

Anna, a southern California homeschooling family, I think near Los Angeles, was investigated due to one of their children reporting abuse. Initial ruling was, in part, that the kids should now be sent to a brick and mortar school. Appeals court overturned that ruling. Then some judge who has probably never read the state constitution claims that parents in California DO NOT have the right to homeschool...HUH?! Bet he doesn't know that states do not have the authority to *grant rights*; that's the US government's job. What an idiot!

It is creating a lot of talk and some concern, but I doubt it will go anywhere...too many homeschoolers here in California to allow that garbage to slip by!
