What sizes do Charm packs come in and how may are in a pack? Are these similar to Fat Quarters? What quilts would you make with the "charms"?

Charm packs are most often 5" squares although some manufactors are now making 10". They are usually all of one line of fabric so the numbers vary. If you purchased the Through the Seasons, you get 1 5" square of each fabric. Sorta like samples. The number in pack varies with the number of fabrics in the line.

I love using Charm Packs. The cutting is done for you and the fabric is all coordinated. Do a search on Charm Pack quilt patterns and you will find a lot of patterns. There are also a lot of table runner patterns that only require on pack minus the backing.

And to add to the confusing futher, they now are making 'swatches' - 2 1/2" squares of each fabric in a line. I've only seen 4 or 5 of these so far.

I have one charm pack that I bought to make a tote. All of the edges are pinked. Does this mean that I can wash them and they won't fray too much? I aways wash, starch and iron my fabrics before I use them so I feeling kinda funny about using the fabrics without washing them first.

I would think if you just lie them in the sink to carefully handwash that they will be just fine.
