Batting question

Can anyone tell me if it's okay to use 2 layers of cotton batting in a quilt. I really like the warm & natural batting but it seems so thin to me so I was thinking about using 2 layers. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hi Barbara,
I have used 2 layers of Warm and Natural in quilts before and not had any problems. I agree with you, it is so thin that it just seems to need a little more loft to it.

Welcome to the Forum! I hope you will join in on lots of discussions so we can all get to know you. There is a wonderful group of people on here and we all love new members!

Barbara,
I usually use Warm and Natural and I like the thin look most of the time However, if I want a lofter look I use Mountain Mist cotton/polyester blend.

I use a polyester blend for a real lofty look--on small projects. It is hard to get under the walking foot if it is too thick. But, if this is used on a large quilt, people will tell me that it doesn't breathe, and leaves the person sweaty. So, I stay away from it for any size of quilts. I really like the Warm and Natural, even though it seems thin. I used it on our King Size quilt bedspread, and we like it very much. No sweat, but warm and cozy.

Hi, I can't imagine using two layers of warm and and natural batt to a quilt. One layer is more than enough to keep someone warm etc. If you are looking for more loft why don't you use polyester batt which comes in many thicknesses. For myself two layers of warm and natural batt would make the quilt too heavy IMO. Marge

Thanks everyone for your input on this. I am going to use the warm & natural for this quilt (a double wedding ring for my son's wedding) but still have to ponder if I'm going to use 2 layers. I would like the quilt to have a bit of a loft to it, but I hadn't thought about the weight of two layers. I know the warmth won't be a problem because they use a down comforter now. Guess I'll have to think about it. Thanks again and thanks also for the welcome. I've been lurking for a while on this forum and you are really a great bunch of women!
