Containers for fat quarters
I would like QIAD to come up with a Clear plastic container for the storage of fat quarters. I know other companys have containers but you can't see the colors through the outside. I know you can label, but the capability of seeing the colors would help. I would also like the lid to be attached from the side or the back. It would also be nice if they stacked. I know I am asking for alot, but think of how many I would purchase. Any other solutions besides putting fat quarters with other colors in a big plastic container?

I've been looking for a very similar thing and have just about decided that I will g with some of the plastic stacking drawers because you don't have to worry about tops or unstacking them. I have some that stack now but I have to unstack all of them to get something & of course the something I think I want is in the bottom one and then when I get to it I realize it wasn't quite the shade I thought it was. LOL

Re: Containers for fat quarters
i did find one at wal-mart that I liked. It is long, and the size of the fat quarters. It holds about 50 in it. It has a lid that comes from the right side and snaps down. But, I want to get several that would look good in the sewing room. The trouble is,
when I went back, they had none. So, I am back to where I started.
Thanks. The stacking would be a problem of getting them out. Let me know what you decide on.

I don't know how you have your fq folded, but you could use those stacked drawers and add dividers that you would use in a sock drawer. Use vertical dividers to keep them neat & tidy. Just an idea

IKEA has some nice see-through containers with lids. Reasonably priced and in various sizes.
I check every place I go to. Found a smallish wire basket at local supermarket that fits folded FQs nicely. And even saw a CD storage box (open) that looks like it would fit FQs as folded at JoAnns.
My stash is miniscule compared to the personal fabric stores some of y'all refer to as "stash"...

Re: Containers for fat quarters
I like the clear containers so I can put the containers on the floor and match them quickly. I divide mine by manufacture line, Thimbleberries, Aunt Grace, etc. Then I break it down to colors. If I am making a scrappy quilt I can leave them on the floor and just keep working out of them.
This weekend I was able to pull out just my Thimbleberries and make a scrappy quilt using 60 different fabrics. When I am done with the fat quarter I can fold it back up and put it right back in the right plastic shoe box.
I use a marker and write on the end and the top. It is so easy to go to the closet and choose exactly the style I am looking for.
I also, reorganize twice a year. This keeps me updated as to where I am getting low.
I hope this helped.

I have to keep my fabric in a plastic container on the top shelf of the closet. Otherwise my son would pull all of the fabric out and toss it around and run through the house with them. Last night I was cutting up old jeans to make a denim quilt and he took all of the scraps (mostly the thick seams) as I tossed them and hung them around his shoulders. It was pretty cute.

Thanks for all of your tips. I really never thought of using the shoe box size. I do have a couple of them, and will try that, with other stuff in them. I like having them separated in the different groups as you said you did, Ruthie. Keeping things organized to be useful is the name of the game.
