What would you make using Hawaiian print? MOVED to General discussion

SQUARES!
You will not believe how old these are. I purchased the squares in May of 2000 when we were in Hawaii. Now that is more than 7 years ago!
I am putting pictures here so you can see.
I like the red and black. It is more charcoal than true black. I thought the back would be the charcoal color. As for the top....I'm having a terrible time trying to figure it out. As you can see from the pics there are plenty of squares. I will do something else with the blue. I think that they sold the pack so you could use all the squares without any sashing. I was thinking if there was a way to do 'winning hand' with it. Then of course I can do just squares with sashing. My mom did one using up her squares in blue. Just squares with white sashing. Then she did other one using green and charcoal squares. She cut the squares into triangles, added a solid color and made a large square and added sashing. I have that one so I can add the pic. I like that one and thought I would do one like it. My colors are different so I would have a different look to it.
I've been looking at this package for 7 and a half years and finally opened it the other day. I think I need to do something with them. I can make several small quilts from these squares. I don't make anything too big. I leave that to mom. She has more room than I do. *smile* I just make small lab or twin size quilts.

The prints are beautiful. They almost could be used for a border, and cut down through the solid color. You would have to find other materials to match with them. Or, you could make a square in a square. I am sure you will find something for them.

Thanks for the idea. I've been trying to decide for ten years what to do with similiar fabric that I got in Hawaii in l997. I like your idea. Thanks again.

these are so delcious I think I would consider highlighting them like a fuzzy cut square and build around them using for squares and in borders - consider using batiks to highlight them they are just wonderful

or you could do them like a picture frame collage that would be yummy too and a wonderful wall hanging it would make or yes the more I ponder on it the better that sounds

line them up 2 - 4 accross and however many down then use fabric for matting maybe a double mat or sash on them how awesome I can see it in my head

Lovely prints. Quilt would be nice, with a low key color to use as in between the quilt at top.

The price for the 7x7 squares was a bargain.

I would be tempted to make smaller quilts also.

I love the bright colors. I have some from Hawaii that my girlfriend brought back for me. I made a quilt and still have squares left. They're softer colors.

Love what you did with the Hawaiian pinwheels quiltwithmom. My son brought me some Hawaiian fabric that are the pieces not used when making shirts. It's one of those projects I will get to "some day."

What I had planned to do with them is use a pattern by Lisa Boyer called "Happy Hula Huts." They really are cute. I found some fabric that looks like palm leaves to make the rooves.

Now I'm enthused about this again.

depending on the size of those squares you could probably make a charm quilt out of them with some solids added to them.

PS I love the pinwheel quilt also

Charm quilt sounds like a good idea. There are so many squares! I didn't count them, but just look at the stack. It says King size quilt but with sashing and other fabric mixed in I could get several twin/lap quilts. I just don't have the engery or the place to make a large quilt. The squares are 7 inches. My mom made the pinwheel one and it is almost queen/king or so. She makes up her own pattern and the size is what ever it comes to. She has made three quilts with her squares (still has some) and she bought a smaller package then mine. :-)
I have sent for backing fabric. I couldn't find anything I liked around here. Our oldest son lives in Hawaii. I asked him to go shopping for me. I sent the check and pictures. Now we shall see just how long it takes him to get to the fabric store. LOL :-)) I know it is just what he wants to do. LOL I wish I could be there with a camera. LOL :-) He will probably buy groceries and forget about my fabric! ;-0. It is times like this I wish I had girls. At least most of them love to shop. Boys, well, we shall see!
Thanks for the suggestions!
Love and happy sewing!
