My question is.... When you use a 1/2" seam allowance on flannel, do you open the seam and press or do you press it to one side or the other?

I pressed open and then used El's technique, both worked well. But, I think El's worked better because I could lock the seams easier. Amie

What is El's technique? Is it in one of her books?

El's technique pressing to one side and then making a tiny 4 patch on the back reducing the bulk. Of course, I'm not sure which pattern your doing. Eitherway though, when you quilt it, everything will be flat. HTHs, Amie :oD

Stitchsister! You are in God's Country! Haven't seen you post before! I am from Oregon (last three years have lived in Washington but will always be an Oregonian at heart).
Susie
I haven't done a flannel quilt before...what pattern are you doing?

I'm checking out what others have said - I have flannel from a FQ swap and want to make something, but am worried about fat, bumpy seams....
I also lived in Brooks, OR for a year - in the middle of an onion patch!

I have never made a flannel quilt. I had no idea you are suppose to use a 1/2" seam. Why? The loose weave of the fabric? Couldn't we just shorten our stitch length. I'm trying to learn more about this. Thanks.
