picking fabric on line
I am trying to buy some fabric from QIAD for my Pioneer sampler. My problem is trying to find colors and patterns that go together. I pick on I like and put it in my shopping cart and then how do you compare to see what goes with it? Is there some way to drag the sample pictures to an area and put some together?

Re: picking fabric on line
I would never be able to pick fabric for a specific project online. I have to be able to stack it up and look at it...for long periods of time.
I'm amazed at the people who can.

I buy the charm packs to the fabric lines I like, then I can look at them while online ordering my fabric. It makes it much easier.

I love to shop online now. But, when you first start out, your not familiar with the lines, designers, or brands. Once you get into it, you'll know every brand, designer, lines, everything. Then, shopping online is the way to go! Of course, the shows are a great place to spend $$$$, too. I don't shop my LQS's anymore. I'd rather buy everything online except for stuff I have to get at the shows. Amie

I find if I picked the same lines then they will go together. What I mean is for an example.......Quilts Thru the Seasons.....winter line.
You can do that on the discount fabric here also. There is a search feature for manufacturers. That has helped me. I will make one up for you....Moda...Spring Journey. All fabrics in that line would match.
I will buy a fat quarter pack of a certain line and then 3 yards of what I want to be the focus fabric. It will then be the border.
I am a big bargain shopper but like quality fabric.

Thanks for all your comments. I will try them - especially buying the charm packs. Sounds like a good way to preview fabric and also build up stash of charm packs.

Re: picking fabric on line
I guess I'm fortunate that I live near a very big city that has lots of quilt shops because I don't like to order fabric on line. I love to go to the LQS and browse, look and touch all the fabrics and then start choosing what I want. I can lay them all out somewhere and just spend time looking, swapping, thinking and deciding. I just can't get the touchy-feely thing goin' on over the internet. I'm also afraid that the colors I'm seeing on my monitor are not true and that makes me a little leary. But I know some of you don't live close to a quilt shop or you can't easily get there so on-line is your only alternative. I wish all you girls could come to Houston and we'd all go on a big shop hop.

You can always look at the major fabric lines at the quilt store, see which ones you like, then order them online.

I usually buy alot of Eleanors Benartex fabrics, whenever she comes out with a new fabric line she also comes out with the charms packs, sometimes I bug them wanting them so fast but it's because I need to see them before I can buy online I want to make sure it's what I like.

With QIAD fabrics I just pick what looks good on the net. & I have never been disappointed.
I ordered some Fairy Frost from a place called Cotton-Picking & I was very pleased. They sent me a Fat Qtr to say Thanks for the order. I ordered 3 other colors later and they sent me 1/3 yd of a color I had not ordered to say Thank You for my order. I just went with what I liked.
