Did you used a toothbrush to ruffle the edges? I've never done it myself, but I saw it done on simply quilts. check out hgtv and see if they have a clip on it.

My BF bought a kit to do chenille and it had a small wire brush included. The instructions said to spritz it then use the wire brush. Hope this or something will help you.

I bought a brush in the paint department at Walmart...it is a hard plastic bristle just like the quilt shops sell for brushing chenille, but the Walmart one was for removing paint from grooves on furniture. I think you may have made your first mistake by buying good kona cotton to do chennile work...usually the more open weave the fabric the better fraying you will get. Also never heard of using 7 layers of fabric....the class I took we used 4 to 5 and that seemed enough to get a good bushy chennile. If I were you, I would try a sample of less layers for a start and if that doesn't work go shopping for a lesser quality cotton.

It was a fun show to watch.
