Flying Geese Question

I'm about to start another Flying Geese quilt. The fabrics I've chosen are a very pale blue & white print for the "sky" and the "geese" are various prints in navy blues, chambray blues, and dark blue & white prints. My question is, since I need to press the seams towards the "sky", is it going to be a problem with the darker fabrics making a shadow in the "sky" area, and how do I remedy it, if so? I don't think I can press the seams towards the geese. Anyone have any advice?

Well, I just sewed a sample using the darkest print for the geese, and it isn't creating a shadow on the the sky like I thought it would! So... I'm off to the races to make 120 Flying Geese. Actually more than that because my king size bed is larger. I love using the QIAD Flying Geese rulers and method, it's my cup of tea!

Sounds like it will be an absolutely gorgeous quilt! I'm planning to do one in the exact "reverse" of your colors: white geese and different blues for sky... Can't wait to see a pic of yours!

I'm anxious to see a pic of yours, too! I'm using Hampton Blues by Timeless Treasures. Going to put the dark stripe inbetween the rows of geese, a small navy inner border, and the large scale floral outer border. Are you going to use the QIAD Flying Geese method and rulers for yours? If you haven't tried that yet, you would love it. They turn out perfect. Well, back to sewing geese now!

Hi, patsyann! I haven't made a quilt for DH and I yet, and decided it was our turn. It's going to be 126"x126", so wish me luck! I got it all cut out this a.m. We're going to try to go to the cabin this afternoon after we visit with my dad, so I'll take it with me and sew in the mountains. Yahoo!

Georgiapeach, I don't know the name of my fabrics, but this - minus the white - is what it'll look like. This was just a couple of "prototype blocks" I made the other week, and I will switch the white for a light creme cotton sateen. And, yes, I will use the small QIAD flying geese ruler, and make the 1 1/2 x 3" geese, into the QIAD wild goose chase pattern... The darkest blue is not really as dark as it looks in the picture, and it has small silver things scattered on it, so the crossings will look like shining stars...
I can't wait to start on this one! Good luck with yours!

Homespun, that quilt block is beautiful! I love the Wild Goose Chase pattern, love the name of it, too! LOL! I made a yellow and blue and white one from that pattern and it was so much fun to do. We're at our mountain house now, and I'm sewing geese up here....talk about a wild goose chase! LOL! Thanks for posting the pic, it is really pretty and with the sateen fabric and the sparkles in the dark navy it's going to be gorgeous! Well, back to the geese for awhile.........

Eleanor's flying geese template/ruler is just amazing. You get perfect points every time. I haven't made a flying geese quilt yet, but it's on my list. My very, very long list of quilts to make.
