I need to know what to do with red flannel that is going to fade that I want to use for a rag quilt. Should I wash it first and then if I do do I have to was the rest of the flannels that I will use so that all will be pre shrunk. I am only using 2 flannels for this project

I always wash flannels twice before using. They shrink a lot.

I forgot to add....when I iron flannel after it's washed, I use sizing. This gets the fabric smoothe with out making it stiff.

Try washing it with Retayne.

How does Retayne compare to soaking in vinegar. And can Retayne be found at Wal-mart or do we need to go to the LQS?

Never tried the vinegar, so can't advise you on that. Retayne is not found at Walmart; only in quilt stores as far as I know.

Try the color catcher sheet when you wash it. Worked for my rag quilt

Evie,
I think I was at the FM store when I saw the Retayne in Springfield. I know I saw it in 2 of the stores and I think they were one of them.
