Help! What to do with 1 inch strips?

I have been sorting my fabric to use up all my scraps for quilts. I have 2 & 3 inch strips to use for Lemonye Star quilts; 2.5" squares for nine patch, and larger squares for Wonky Stars quilts.

I was planning on using strips for either a pineapple quilt or log cabin, but instead of cutting these 1.5 inches, I cut a bunch of them as 1"! Where was my brain!!!

Anyhow, do you guys think these would still work OK in a pineapple or log cabin? I know it would take me forever to do though.

Any other suggestions as to what to use these for?

thanks for any suggestions!
joan

Joan, have you ever heard of 'Locker Hooking'? It would be a great way to use 1" strips. A friend of mine, Kathleen Carpenter came up with using fabric to locker hook and has written a few books with fun patterns. My 9 yr old DGD can even do it. JoAnn's and Hobby Lobby had carried the books, hooks and rug canvas. Here's the web site:

Lots of people have books out now and videos.

You could also make doll quilts and donate them, or strip quilts, or NICU quilts.

I had never head of Locker Hooking! I will check on this.

I am planning on using these for charity quilts - so possibly NICU quilts would be much smaller to make.

Thank you guys for the suggestions.

String quilts are another way to use up narrow pieces for all types of things. Blocks, borders, sashing, etc. I have a basket I keep any "string" that is 1 inch or larger for making these. Check out Bonnie Hunters web site, she is a huge fan of strings!

You can use your 1" strips to do fences and rails.

Our guild has a 2-day workshop $60.00 on this idea.. Sewing strips together, cutting triangle shape it looked lot like one of Eleanor burns Scrap to Quilt book pattern. Yet Eleanor had wider strips, but who is to say more strips sewned and smaller width couldn't work same method.

I am still cutting up my fabric into strips, but the rest are going to be 1.5"! I have so many scraps - but it will take a long time to make a block with these little 1" strips. But I have enough, I think I will make a small fences/rails, log cabin, and I love this idea of strips cut into triangles. I ordered the book on Locker Hooking - I think I may try making small placemats or something. Now I am excited! I will post pictures when (and if LOL!) I get any of these finished!
Thanks so much for the suggestions guys! Got me to thinking of all the possibilities.

So now I have a huge box of 2.5-3" strips that I am hoping to make some Lemonye Stars out of, a box of 2.5" squares for 9-patch, and a box of 4.5" squares that I am thinking of making a Wonky Star quilt. All are going to be charity quilts, so at least I don't have to really make them that big. Goal is to have at least 20 charity quilts ready by the end of this year!

FOLD THEM IN HALF AND USE AS A FRAME FOR QUQILT BEFORE YOU PUT ON BOARDER.
