Has anyone ever used Pellon Natures's Touch 100% cotton batting. It is 1/4"loft. Will this be thick enough for a queen size quilt and does it need to be prewashed. Shrinkage is 3-5%. Thanks

Yes, it is good, but I would not pre-wash it at all. I still prefer
Warm and Natural over the others for just regular quilting.
Each quilt demands different attention at times. You need to check
for yourself. I do a test with a small section.

I don't pre wash my batting. I use Warm & Natural. Different kinds of battings are out there and weights...they serve different purposes and make your quilt look like you want it to. How many stitches sewn apart may affect the way your batting will work also. Hobbs makes good Batting also.

I use Quilters Dream cotton "Request". It is the thinnest loft and is 100% pure cotton with NO scrim, glue or binders. It is great for both machine and hand quilting.

Good Morning!

I am a "newbie" to quilting and did not know about all the differences in batting! I just pick out whatever is on sale for the project I am currently sewing.

Is there a preferred batting that everyone is using? Right now, I chose Fairfield's Quilter's 80/20 for the project (Thimbleberries Building Blocks). Is this batting the right choice for this project?

I will welcome any and all ideas!

I think it is more a case of what is the right choice for YOU. Fairfield Quilter's 80/20 is a great batting. Those who like to see the 'antique' look after washing a quilt like to use a cotton batting that will shrink just a little after washing. Those who like a lighter weight will often pick an all poly batting. I think most hand quilters prefer poly or wool, As it is easier to needle. Pick whatever you like!

My batting question is about spacing. Made the log cabin lap robe and used a 100% cotton store brand (not sure if I'm allowed to use names of retail stores here)batting with no scrim or binders. I was just planning on machine quilting on the diagonal & around the borders. Now I'm noticing on the bag it says to quilt 2-4" apart. I will have much more space between the diagonal quilting lines than this. Have I messed up? Will this not hold together?

Hi, I'm quite new to quilting, and have always used the 80.20 bamboo cotton blend.I've found it great in my limited experience, and there sure isn't any question about it being warm, and it drapes beautifully. My question relates to useage also.I made a Magic Tiles quilt and I want to hang it. It is 56 x 70. Does anyone know if a quilt this size with cotton/bamboo or really cotton batting will sag? What do you use for a hanging quilt?

Only thing I do to my batting is throw it in dryer NO HEAT setting and it will help get any wrinkles out of it
